FESTIVAL WATERFALL BRAID

7/14/2014

The festival season is upon us once again (woohoo) I for one am really excited because every year I venture over to one festival or another. I have recently learned how to do a waterfall braid and want to share this hairstyle because it is really great for festivals.
Why? Well, it is quick and once practiced not necessary to have a mirror-perfect for styling in a tent. The best thing is that it works best on second day hair due to it being a bit more manageable. As festivals don't exactly promote hair washing, this is a perfect way to look chic on second day. I am looking forward to having my hair out of my face too because often its windy and wet at festivals. In waterfall braids a lot of hair is braided in so it keeps my shorter layers out of my face. The last perk making it suitable for a festival is that I only used two products; a hairbrush and VO5 firm hold hairspray, which is a medium hold so keeps the plait smooth rather than crispy. HOW TO DO A WATERFALL BRAID? I hear you ask... It is a hard one to explain in writing but here goes... it is basically a normal plait but dropping the third strand.
So, take two strands from the front of your hair, fold the one closest to your face over the one further away, take a third strand and fold it in-between and then over the strand closest to your face. However, instead of weaving it a second time, you drop the third strand, and fold the first and second over..and then take a third strand from further back and continue. I have no idea if that is a good enough explanation. I always learn better by seeing someone else do it so if there is demand for a video tutorial I will be more than happy to make one so leave a comment if you would like me to!? The great thing about this is that you can carry on around your hair, or keep the braid on one side and put your hair in a low (or high) ponytail, like I did in the picture above. I have even seen waterfall braids with flowers or jewels weaved in which looks lovely. I will be finding some flower slides to weave in at a festival this year. But however you style your waterfall braid, it is actually a really great way of making a bad hair day into a good hair day!

    1. You can actually do a really loose waterfall braid down the side of your head like I have in my third pic which means that people with a fringe can still wear this style :) x

Your hair is actually amazing! I really can't get my head around waterfall braids, but I definitely love plaits at festivals, especially braiding your fringe out the way!

    1. Thank you! Ah really? They can be tricky at first but stick with them :D Yeah getting my fringe out of the way was the reason I learned to weave a waterfall braid.
