BRUSHES ON A BUDGET:FOUNDATION

11/18/2014

Hello! I have been waiting for these brushes for a long time! Everytime I went into store to get some but they were sold out, but the day has finally come for me to try Wilkos' stippler brush and flat foundation brush. I have very strong opinions about these.
Wilko's isn't the first place I would think to buy brushes but these brushes in their premium range are really great. At £4 each they are quite the bargain. If you're on a students budget (like me) or if you just don't feel like investing in expensive brushes so close to Xmas then give these a go! Obviously, they are not made from the highest quality materials and are a bit heavy, however the brushes have given my makeup an amazing finish this week. I'm not very good at describing products but, i'll give it a go...

Premium stippler brush: This is my first ever stippler brush (gasp) I use it with liquid foundation but it is also really great for use with powder as it gives a light finish.
Back to foundation: I try to avoid my foundation looking caked on. Sometimes this is hard because I have fairly deep blemish scars. It is hard to describe but with the stippler brush my foundation coverage has been more...airbrushed rather than thick and patchy. This is because of the soft and lightweight material.
The brush smooths over my dry skin rather than forcing foundation into it so again, its less noticeable.

Premium foundation brush: this is maybe not the most revolutionary product but the thing I love about it the most is that the bristles are concentrated yet soft at the same time. This is something I find hard to find. Also, the bristles are small in length so I found it easy to get precision coverage by blending small areas. Sometimes the brushes are really big and thick which makes my foundation go on thick and in massive clumps which is hard but this one is lovely and really soft. That goes for the stippler brush too its amazing!!

One last thing is that the end of the brushes look skin coloured but they were originally white before I used them...but with a wash I'm sure they will go back to white, I just thought it would be a bit deceptive to wash them for this review. This way is true to life!

I hope this has helped those of you who want a few really lovely foundation brushes but don't want to spend a lot in the run up to Christmas. If you want to look at them on Wilko.com click HERE. I would really recommend purchasing them- I know I will be purchasing more from the range soon. Hopefully they live up to the same standard.

If you have liked this post I will be posting more like this soon so be sure to follow me on bloglovin' HERE or on Twitter HERE. My new posts are added on both these places.

  1. I've never tried a stippler brush before either! I've recently got some new brushes from the Body Shop. But I'm always worried I'll lose/damage my favourites on holiday, so I'll be sure to check a these as a cheaper option!

  4. I've never tried Wilko's brushes, although these look very similar to RealTechniques brand available around me. I use my stippler sometimes with foundation, but mostly as a blending brush with no product on it. I also use the foundation brush for applying highlighters. I've never actually used it on my face to apply foundation.. How weird am I? hahah.

  5. When I clicked on this post I thought it was a review about the Real Techniques brushes. They look extremely similar. I love a good brush which still works well. I don't think they are available in Australia though :( Jess | It's That Time For

    1. Oops hope you weren't too disappointed! Im sure someone on ebay or amazon will be selling them but I wouldn't be surprised if they were selling them for a profit.

  6. These look like really good value brushes. I had the real techniques buffing brush for my foundation and have recently changed to the LY34 Louise Young Super Foundation brush, it really lives up to the hype! x
